She is one of the favourites of the critics and the masses, Kavita’s singing career reads like a fairy tale. She is a very rare personality who has served as a bridge from the older film singers like Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, right up to the present day singers like Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam and Shaan.

The singer who has regaled us with chart-busting numbers like ‘Nimbooda’ from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, ‘Tu cheez Badi hai’ mast from ‘Mohra’ and ‘Pyaar Hua Chupke Se’ from  ‘1942 A Love Story’,  is clearly one of the most versatile and technically gifted female singers in Indian film industry.

She has lent her voice to heroines from Nutan, Helen, Shabana, Sridevi, Madhuri, Manisha, Kajol, to Karishma, Aishwarya ,Kareena and Rani Mukherjee.

Although primarily a playback singer, Kavita has sung with orchestras as a soloist and she even collaborated with Western artists from jazz and pop fields. 

She has been doing live shows for almost three decades now, conquering global shores having done a number of concerts in various countries including the US, UK, UAE, Europe, Africa, Australia, the Middle East, and South America. She has even had the privilege to perform at Royal Albert Hall in London and Madison Square Garden in New York.

The recipient of five Filmfare Awards for ‘Best Female Playback Singer’, she stands tall as one of India’s most respected singers. She has also been honored with a ‘Padma Shri’ award in 2005.

With a career spanning over 40 years, Kavita Krishnamurthy has recorded more than 18,000 songs in 16 languages. 

Kavita is known to have explored and expanded her artistic range to areas which have never been explored by the singers before. She has proved herself in every musical field she has chosen to enter and has enthralled audiences from around the world with their stage performances and playback singing. She is known as the representative of national integration.
